A repeated quarter-turn gives the mark order without making every part identical. The small speech-bubble tails keep the symbol connected to conversation.

Documented process

Pentagram explored several directions before retaining the familiar octothorpe. The new grid combines speech bubbles and lozenges. Four primary colors replaced the earlier eleven, addressing reproduction and consistency problems.
